Accessible, inviting and full of local inspiration: Bonaire’s long-awaited community library has officially opened its doors at an interim location. The design by Dutch consultancy and design agency includi brings color and warmth to this temporary home – a place that connects and strengthens the local society. The new Bonaire Library has a colorful and locally inspired design that spans two floors. The interior features oiled pine wood in vivid pastels. Downstairs is a multifunctional space with a kids’ area, a reading corner for 6-12-year-olds and an expandable stage. The kitchen, which also functions as an information desk, welcomes visitors with ‘Bon Bini’ and offers a cozy place to enjoy coffee and snacks. Upstairs is a youth space with a ‘cave’ to chill in, a MakerSpace, a multifunctional meeting room and offices.
A Center for Education and Culture
Bonaire previously had a small, hidden library that no longer met the island community’s needs.
